Man killed in shooting at "booby-trapped" Midlands home

CCSO
Calhoun County Sheriff's Office

A Midlands man is dead after he went to check on a vacant family property, February 24th. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says, a home in St. Matthews was booby trapped and had a gun set to go off once anyone entered the home.

34 year old, Jordan Dove was fatally shot while his daughter was with him at the home. The house belonged to Dove's uncle, 66 year old Alfonzo Brown. He's has been held in Maryland since January on unrelated charges.

The Sheriff's Office says when they went to the home, they found a shotgun rigged up at the backdoor to fire once anyone entered. Sheriff Thomas Summers says he feels like Brown rigged the home expecting deputies to come there.

Brown has been charged with murder and a weapons violation in connection to the shooting of his nephew. The incident remains under investigation.
