A glaring mix up at a Western North Carolina jail led to the mistaken release of a dangerous detainee. Last Thursday, Joseph Shustek was released from the Buncombe County Detention Center.
He had been found guilty last month on charges of assaulting a woman and assault with a deadly weapon. The exact details of how his release happened are unclear.
However, Sheriff Quentin Miller issued a statement apologizing calling the mishap a serious institutional failure and a procedural error. Officials in Buncombe County say, that Shustek is now back in custody.
