Suspect Jimmie Steverson

Warm Springs Police Dept.

More details have come out after a man reportedly took his own life in the Upstate after allegedly shooting and killing a Georgia police officer. The Warm Springs Police Department in Georgia has released the body cam footage that shows an initial conflict between the suspect Jimmie Lee Steverson and Sgt. Chris Fisher.

Steverson was arrested there after Fisher conducted a traffic stop that devolved into a fight between the two. Fisher eventually took Steverson into custody after Steverson was non-complaint and became combative. Police say two AR Style rifles, a Draco pistol, marijuana and cash were all seized in a search of the vehicle.

Just a few days later, Fisher was said to be at an unrelated traffic stop waiting on a tow truck when Steverson pulled up and shot him. The incident was reported by a witness. Police Department leadership in Warm Springs, have said they saw Steverson drive by the scene of the traffic stop multiple times, they night of the shooting.

Officials say, Steverson was found inside a vehicle in Anderson County the following day. He died shortly after from what was described as a self inflicted gunshot wound.
