A man is dead after crashing his motorcycle over the weekend. The South Carolina Highway patrol says the crash happened Saturday morning on SC Hwy 211, near Mattie Jones Road about 8 miles south of Gaffney.
On Sunday, the man was identified as 66 year old, Mark Douglas Cooney of York. The Cherokee County Coroner's office released that information and they plan to perform an autopsy on Cooney, as part of the investigation.
The Highway Patrol says, Cooney lost control of his motorcycle ran off the road , hit and embankment and came to rest in a ditch. The exact time of the crash is not know, Cooney was found dead at the scene of the accident after a passerby reported it around 10:30 AM. The Highway patrol says he was not wearing a helmet.
