Officials say that additional charges will be filed after two detainees at a Western North Carolina jail allegedly assaulted detention officers, Monday.
The incidents happened while detainees Rodman Rivera and William Jason Woodard were being processed at the Macon County Jail. The chaos unfolded while Rivera was being processed and a bag containing a controlled substance was found.
The Macon County Sheriff's Office says another bag of what is believed to be fentanyl was found and was thrown at a detention officer. The incident exposed the officer and they were taken to a hospital to be evaluated. During the commotion, Rivera reportedly bit a detention officer.
Woodard who was being booked on behalf of the Franklin Police Department then reportedly became combative with detention staff. He's accused of spitting blood on a detention officer.
That officer was also taken to a local hospital to be evaluated. The Sheriff's Office says the additional charges against the two men are still pending, as of this time.
