Alex Murdaugh wants to take back his confession that he lied about how the family's housekeeper died, so enough money will be available to settle dozens of other lawsuits by ex-clients who say he scammed them, too.

Murdaugh's petition, in legal parlance, asks the court to rescind his courtroom admission that he lied when he said one of his dogs caused housekeeper Gloria Satterfield's fatal staircase fall at the family's estate in 2018 so her sons could sue his insurance company.

He wants the court to vacate the judgement that he must return the four-point--three million dollars the company paid to settle the case which Murdaugh funneled into his own bank account.

Now, Murdaugh's lawyers say, the confession was “another chapter in a bleak and dispiriting story of a man brought to his knees by a crippling drug addiction".

They also say, that if the judgement stands Satterfield's sons and the other victims will suffer because of what the lawyers call "a limited pool of money."

Lawyer Eric Bland who represents the Satterfield family calls Murdaugh's motion "“yet another filing in a long line of rolls of legal toilet paper.”

Murdaugh is serving consecutive life sentences for murdering his wife and son, it's not clear when he will be tried for any of the financial crimes.
