A suspect has been charged with murder after a woman's body was discovered in an Upstate park, more than two years ago.
In August of 2023, we reported on the murder of Janet Abrilz after her body was discovered at Lakeside Park in the Gantt Community. The discovery was made by someone who was walking the trails of the park, which prompted the investigation.
The Greenville County Sheriff's Office says 49 year old, Robert Wilson Voorhees has been charged with her murder. The autopsy revealed that Abrilz died from blunt force trauma and her death occurred two or three days prior to her body being found.
After a two year long investigation, DNA matching the suspect served as the catalyst for his arrest. Voorhees is already incarcerated in Greenville County on unrelated charges.
The arrest marks the 14th murder the County's Cold Case Unit has solved in the last five years.
