North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper is emerging as a front row contender to share the Democrat ticket with Kamala Harris.
Cooper issued a virtual psalm in response to Biden's step-down announcement calling him, quoting here, "...among our nation's finest Presidents... the rarest type of leader who could help us forge ahead with a vision to repair our country's soul."
Two people close to the Biden-Harris campaign told the New York Times earlier this month Cooper would be a favorite to join Harris on the ticket if she were to become the nominee.
Harris and Cooper got to know each other when they both served as attorneys general of their states, and most recently appeared together for a Biden campaign rally in North Carolina.
Three other governors are also being mentioned: Andy Beshear of Kentucky, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and Michigan's Gretchen Whitmer.
