Some Burlington North Carolina residents are having a McDay... and that's not a good thing.
A McDonald's employee was taken into custody, accused of stealing from customers. The Burlington North Carolina Police Dept. began investigating February 29th after managers from the North Church Street location called.
Allegedly, one of the employees made an extra charge on a customers drive-thru order. The additional charge was noticed on the victims bank account. Investigating officers uncovered 39-year-old Travis Murphy, who worked the drive-thru, charged the customer for their McDonald's order AND made a charge to his personal Square account.
On Monday, March 11, 2024, Murphy was taken into custody and charged with identity theft and obtaining property under false pretense. He was transported to the Alamance County Detention Center and was given a $25,000 secure bond.
Burlington North Carolina Detectives believe there are more victims in this scam and urge folks to come forward.
