The death toll is now up to nearly 60 in Buncombe County alone. Sheriff Quentin Miller held a news conference Wednesday and confirmed that 57 people had died in Buncombe County to that point.
Sheriff's Offices in various North Carolina Counties are assisting with Buncombe County's 911 Call Center. Hundreds of roads around Buncombe County and the surrounding areas remain closed.
The NCDOT says I-40 has re-opened in the Old Fort area of McDowell County.
