Students in Laurens County School District 55 will return to school on Thursday, and the new school year will bring with it a new policy on cell phone usage.
The District says that the use of cell phones for Kindergarten through 8th grade students is prohibited. There will be no use of cell phones during class for students at Laurens High as well.
The new policy came after teachers statewide were sent a survey in May regarding cell phone usage. Teachers cited that phones are a distraction and can also lead to issues with bullying and academic fraud.
There's been no actual scope of discipline defined for students who violate the new policy. However the district says it hopes that students will comply with the rules.
