What was initially believed to be a cardiac event has now been ruled a homicide. This past Saturday, an inmate of the Oconee County Detention Center was found unresponsive in his cell.
Despite life-saving measures taken by staff, 24 year old Michael Calvin McMahan died just before 6:30am. His death was 1st thought to have been some sort of medical episode.
However now, Coroner Karl Addis says an autopsy revealed that McMahan "died from a blunt force head injury consistent with being assaulted by someone."
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division or SLED has been called into investigate. There's been no further information released regarding the death investigation, as of the time of this report.
