New details have emerged regarding the fatal shooting at Fall Creek Landing on Lake Keowee near Salem, earlier this week. The incident happened on the water Tuesday afternoon and claimed the life of 29 year old, Nathan Drew Morgan of Walhalla.
On Wednesday, Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw held a press conference revealing new information. Crenshaw says that the shooter, who has still yet to be identified may have been acting in self defense. The Sheriff stated that the information his office has gathered indicates Morgan assaulted the man while on his pontoon boat.
The Sheriff's Office says that the incident started when the man on the pontoon and his wife spotted Morgan and a female companion in distress in the water without life jackets, after they were presumably thrown from the jet ski they were riding. Crenshaw says the couple on the boat then helped Morgan and the woman out of the water onto their boat.
Morgan reportedly became agitated and began assaulting the man on the boat, the man's wife then pushed Morgan back into the water, in an attempt to diffuse the situation. The married couple then helped him back onto the boat and he reportedly continued to assault the man and the man then fired his gun.
