As the new Greenville County municipal building is inching closer to completion, Greenville County Governmental Affairs Coordinator Bob Mihalic gave WORD a tour of the new facility.
“Over at the current facility, at county square, the old mall, everything is spread out. This new facility is designed for convenience and to have a better public interaction,” Mihalic said. He explained that, while no date is set yet, the move to the new building is expected to happen sometime this spring.

Once operational, the building will have two separate sections. The south building will contain most of the public offices, including the tax office, real property, planning, zoning, and more.

The north building will house the county council chambers on the first floor along with voter registration.

The other floors above that will contain county administrative offices meant to make staff offices connecting when needed more convenient.

That was Greenville County Governmental Affairs Coordinator Bob Mihalic, who gave WORD a tour of the new facility that he said is expected to open sometime this spring.
The new $65 million building was completely paid for through the accrued value of county square’s multi-dozen acre University Ridge, which is set to be turned into both retail and residential space after the move to the new building.

“The goal is to have it be walkable and seamlessly blend with what we have already in downtown,” Mihalic said. “We’ve got the Swamp Rabbit Trail and the Cancer Survivor Park, and those are gonna blend in with what’s being developed here as well.”
