A new study says that South Carolina ranks low nationally for places to raise a family. Research data from Wallethub has South Carolina ranked as the 5th worst state in the U.S. to raise a family in.
The study scored states based on 51 difference metrics to determine their rankings. The Palmetto State ranked 37th in median annual family income, 44th in violent crime per capita, 39th for the number of families living in poverty, 34th in divorce rate and 39th in infant mortality rate.
No Southeastern states ranked in the top half of the study. Florida was highest in that group at 32, Tennessee ranked 33rd, North Carolina came in at 39 and Georgia was ranked 42nd. South Carolina was ranked 46th ahead of Louisiana, West Virginia, New Mexico and Mississippi.
