Around 3:15 PM on Monday Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Deputies, EMS and Fire Services were dispatched to the site of a reported aircraft crash near 2120 Cannons Campground Road in Spartanburg County.
Upon arrival on scene first responders found a single engine aircraft in a graded area that was being prepared for building.
The first responders also noticed a male walking around outside of the aircraft. The male was identified as the pilot, Mr. Teddy Houser.
Mr. Houser stated that his aircraft engine had lost power and he was not able to start the engine again before needing to make a decision about where to make and emergency landing. He selected the large area that had been graded for building since it was free of any buildings and trees.
The aircraft came to rest upside down however, Mr. Houser was able to walk away from the crash with just a few minor scrapes. He was checked out by EMS and he refused any further medical assistance.
Adequate information was provided to the Federal Aviation Administration and we were informed that they would not be responding to the scene.
The pilot was the only person aboard the aircraft.
