New details have been released after a Greenville police officer was shot. As we previously reported, 20 year old Xavier Washington was arrested after an assault in Downtown Greenville, around 12:30 PM, Tuesday.
SLED says, Washington was initially being arrested for public intoxication. During his arrest, Washington reached for an officer's handgun which was holstered. SLED reports that Washington grabbed the gun during the scuffle and it went off. A bullet hit one of the officers in the arm, and grazed Washington's leg.
A 2nd officer was injured when Washington reportedly bit the officer's fingernail off through a glove. Washington is charged with attempted murder, resisting arrest with a deadly weapon and multiple other crimes.
Washington refused to participate in a video call during a court hearing Tuesday and bond has initially been denied.
