North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper has signed a bill into law to allow sports betting in the Tar Heel State. House Bill 347 was signed into state law Wednesday morning at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte.

The bill will allow online betting on pro and college sports; it will also create 8 new in-person sports books at venues around the state. Until the bill goes into effect, sports betting will only be allowed at the state's three casinos, which are operated by Native American tribes.

Cooper was joined by representatives of the Charlotte Hornets, Carolina Panthers, NASCAR and others at the bill signing. Cooper said "As we move forward, we should work to make sure more of the revenue is used to invest in our public schools, teachers and students."
