A tragic shooting that critically injured an Upstate deputy is the inspiration behind possible safety upgrades. As we previously reported, Corporal Lucas Watts of the Oconee County Sheriff's Office shot in the line of duty on November 16th.
Now, Oconee County Councilman Matt Durham is spearheading an effort to have bulletproof glass installed in all Sheriff's Office vehicles. The Council approved a motion on the matter about a week after the shooting of Corporal Watts.
Durham says the county has the funding in its budget to pay for the upgrades. The injured 27 year old Corporal remains in critical condition. Sheriff Mike Crenshaw described the fact that Watts survived as "miraculous".
