Officials say missing Upstate man is dead after work place accident

Death
Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office

Officials now say an Upstate man who was last seen about two months ago, died after he fell into a shredding machine at his work place. 20 year old, Duncan Alexander Burrell Gordon was last seen in early May while working at Industrial Recovery and Recycling in Greer.

Nearly a month after he was last seen, the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office was called in to investigate. Prior to that, Sheriff's Office Investigators found human tissue on a conveyor belt at the facility and had it tested. The results came back and the DNA matched those of Gordon's parents.

A forensics team brought in by the Coroner's Office examined materials and looked in the shredding machine. Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger says, that human fat, skin particles and human bone fragments were found.

While it's now been determined that Gordon died by falling into the machine, the Coroner's Office can not issue a death certificate because no body was recovered. OSHA is investigating whether there were safety violations committed during the incident.
