One person was shot during a traffic stop overnight, but apparently it was from his own weapon. Just after 11:00 PM Tuesday, a Greenville County Deputy made a traffic stop on Wade Hampton Blvd at St. Mark Rd, north of Taylors and requested backup.
While investigating, deputies observed a firearm on one of the occupants inside and as deputies went to secure the occupant a shot was fired and the suspect was struck. Neither of the two deputies fired their weapons. Deputies rendered aid and the subject was taken to a hospital with what is being described as a non-life threatening injury.
Nobody else, including any of the deputies were injured. Two additional occupants were detained and drugs were located. Charges are currently pending at this time.
SLED was requested to the scene to investigate. As standard with GCSO protocol a Critical Incident Community Briefing video detailing the facts of the incident will be released on Friday, March 3, 2023.
