In one week, the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office, along with help from multiple other law enforcement agencies, were able to keep over 300 pounds of marijuana off the streets.
In a news release, Sheriff Chuck Wright announced the mighty success of Operation Rolling Thunder 2024.
The annual week-long campaign focuses on seizing drugs and contraband via traffic stops along major highways.
This year, the Sheriff's Office took hold of approximately 303 pounds of marijuana, 31 pounds of THC wax, cocaine, methamphetamines, prescription drugs, and around $100,000 in cash. Two DUI charges, three open container violations, 45 license violations, and 195 speeding tickets or warnings were issued.
The news release said 100 vehicles were searched, 58 K-9 searches were performed and 25 arrests were made.
In October 2022, the Sheriff's Office was accused of a racially motivated stop after a Shaw University bus was pulled over and searched along 85 in Spartanburg County. The Sheriff's Office refuted that claim with video, and the issue was silenced.
