18 gang members have been sentenced to prison after running a major drug operation in a abandoned community center building in the Low Country. The North Charleston Police Department says a task force launched a long term investigation into the violent street gang.
44 year old, Fredrick McCray the leader of the gang and 17 others have been sentenced to prison. Police say the gang was armed with automatic machine guns.
During the raid of the building 3 kilos of meth, a kilo and a half of powder cocaine, Over a pound of crack, 26 guns and 70 grand in cash were seized.
McCray was sentenced to 30 years on charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine, meth, and heroin, multiple weapons violations and other crimes.
44 year old, Tyrone Cox the main drug connect for the gang was sentenced to 25 years on the same charges. 21 year old, Cornelius Walker who police say was the enforcer for the gang was sentenced to 15 years on charges of conspiracy to distribute meth, cocaine, possession of a machine gun and other charges.
15 others were given sentenced ranging from 12 years to time served.
