Executive Director of the Anderson County Voter Registration and Elections Office, Katy Smith, shared details regarding how the upcoming election will look in Anderson County amidst the Coronavirus pandemic.

Voting in Anderson County this November will look notably different due to the coronavirus pandemic. The main differences of note, as is the same with most counties this election, are the precautions being taken against the potential spread of COVID-19.

“We are taking a lot of thoughtful measures upon recommendation from health professionals and the CDC on promoting safe voting at the polls,” Smith said in her email.

Poll workers will be wearing face masks, and social distancing will be requested of everyone while voting and waiting in lines to vote.

Ballots will be printed out for each individual voter to minimize the amount of contact with objects between workers and voters.

Additionally, q-tip swabs will be handed out to use as a stylus on Ballot Marking Devices to eliminate the transfer of germs between the numerous people using those screens.

Absentee ballots can still be requested, but they will be due either by mail or at a drop box at the Anderson Voter Registration and Elections Office by 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2nd.

Director Smith said roughly 600 people are voting absentee at their office every day, but this won’t be enough to lighten the load much on election day.

“I still feel that voters will be going to the polls and need to have patience and be kind when waiting to vote,” Smith said in her email.
