Protestors gathered in the Upstate, Monday in a show of opposition against a traveling circus that is in town. PETA organized the protest of the Loomis Brothers Circus which is currently holding shows in Pendelton this week.
The issue seems to be centered around a more than 50 year old elephant that is performing in the circus. PETA claims the animal has health the weight issues that limits the elephants mobility.
The circus maintains that the animals are routinely checked by veterinarians, which is part of the regulatory process. The protests are expected to continue as the Loomis Bros. Circus holds show at T. Ed Garrison Arena through Wednesday.
