The plan for a new 30 mile trail in the Upstate is moving forward. The Saluda Grade Rail Trail in Spartanburg County has been in the works since last summer.

A group of charity organizations has partnered together to make the project, a reality. The group has announced that they have signed an agreement with Norfolk Southern Railroad to purchase an inactive rail line that stretches from Zirconia, North Carolina to Inman.

The trail will follow that stretch of rail line which has been inactive for over 20 years. Once it's completed and opened the Saluda Trail is expected to bring tourists and economic growth to that area.

A study on the economic impact and feasibility is currently being worked on. Officials in Spartanburg County say that 5 million has been allocated for the project, thus far.
