A suspect is in custody after a weekend police chase that started in Western North Carolina ended with a crash in North Georgia. The Franklin Police Department responded to a reported assault at a gas station there just before 4PM, Saturday.

When officers arrived they found the suspect Bridgette Wilks-Reed sitting in a U-haul truck. She then drove away in the truck leading officers on a chase. The suspect stopped briefly but then took off again.

The Franklin PD stopped pursuing Wilks-Reed but she crossed into Georgia and officers there picked up the pursuit. The chase ended in Rabun County after stop sticks were used and the suspect crashed the U-Haul truck in the Mountain City Community.

Wilks-Reed suffered minor injuries in the crash and was taken booked into the Rabun County jail after being treated at a local hospital. Charges against the suspect were still pending, at the time of this report.
