Police say group of teens possibly responsible for house fires

SPD
Spartanburg Police Department

A gang of kids might've started fires at two vacant houses in Spartanburg Sunday morning.

The first fire was reported on Brawley Street about 3:00 AM by a neighbor who told firefighters she noticed the flames on the front porch of the home undergoing renovation, then spotted a silver-color sedan occupied by a group of juveniles speeding away.

While firefighters were still on the scene, and Spartanburg Police were investigating what was described as major damage to the home, fire units were dispatched to another house, also unoccupied, about a mile away on Howard Street.

That fire had also started on the front porch, spread quickly, and was pronounced "suspicious." Both incidents are being investigated by the Fire Marshal's Office in addition to Police and local fire departments.
