A Western North Carolina man will spend at least a decade behind bars after a deadly stabbing in 2023. The Buncombe County District Attorney's Office says 30 year old Tyler Perry Laughter pleaded guilty to a charge of voluntary manslaughter, earlier today.
The charge comes after the victim Jason Edmonds died after being stabbed on Riddick Road in Asheville in October of 2023. Laughter was originally charged with 1st degree murder, but that charge was then lessened to a charge of voluntary manslaughter, as prosecutors say there was insufficient evidence to get a murder conviction.
Laughter will serve between 10 and 13 years in the North Carolina State Prison System.
