The Upstate's largest school district could be giving teachers a raise going forward, but it would come at a cost to taxpayers. The Greenville County School District as proposed a new budget for next.
The main focus of the proposal is a salary increase for teachers and other employees. To implement the raises, the District says it would have to raise taxes. The proposed budget would include an increase of 9 of the 34 tax mills available to the District's Board.
The proposed budget of over 850 million also includes increased funding for the new Fountain Inn High School, mentors for 1st year teachers and security enhancements.
A second and final reading in the budget proposal is set for June 5th.
