Fourteen thousand rubber ducks will be competing this weekend for a year of free groceries from Publix at the 19th Annual Reedy River Duck Derby.

The Rotary Club of the Reedy River Greenville puts on the annual event, which is being held this Saturday, May 6th.

The event begins at 2:30pm in Falls Park, when all 14,000 ducks will be released to race down the falls.

Eric Krichbaum, the Service Projects Chair with the Rotary Club of the Reedy River Greenville, joined the Tara show last week to discuss this upcoming event.

“We take all the net proceeds from the derby, and we accept grant requests from local non-profits. And then we’ll go through those requests, and we will actually turn around and send that money back into the community,” said Eric Krichbaum, the Service Projects Chair with the Rotary Club of the Reedy River Greenville, who joined the Tara Show to discuss the upcoming event.
“Last year we supported over 10 local non-profits with the money as well as some of our sweat equity to help them with their causes.”

With 14,000 ducks going at $10 each or 5 for $30, the event is the largest local Rotary fundraiser and supports grants for various local nonprofit organizations.
