Remains belonging to an American World War II soldier have been identified as those of an Upstate man. Army Staff Sergeant Grady Canupp of Greenwood was reportedly killed in action during a conflict in Germany during World War II, but until recently his remains had not been identified.

After the war, that area of battle he was last known to be in was searched and remains were taken from the area. Those remains were buried at an American Military Cemetery in Belgium.

Decades later historians who believed the remains may have belonged to Sergeant Canupp had them uncovered and taken to a lab. Earlier this year after thorough examination scientists determined the remains were those of Sergeant Canupp. A burial service is scheduled for him in Anderson on April 10th.
