School bus traffic law violations have been very prominent in the Upstate so far this year, which the SC Highway Patrol wants to see reduced.
With roughly 180 school bus stop arm violations reported in the upstate so far this year, the South Carolina Highway Patrol held a press conference Wednesday morning to refresh the public on the importance of following school bus traffic laws.
"The fact that folks are passing this school bus, we're putting kids -- their lives -- in danger. The most dangerous time around a school bus is during the loading and unloading process," said Sgt. Matt Southern, the School Bus Safety Coordinator and SC Department of Education Liaison for the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
He explained that all traffic must stop for school buses on single-lane roads, while only those traveling the same direction have to stop for school buses on multi-lane roads.
