Since the Covid pandemic began in 2020 there has been much talk about Universal Basic Income. UBI was a platform that former Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang was speaking on even prior to the pandemic. Since the pandemic several places across the U.S. have adopted UBI programs. Most of the cities and areas that have implemented those programs are in progressively liberal areas such as areas in California and the city of Denver. Chicago is the latest to adopt a UBI program. Atlanta is said to be building a pilot program. Many opponents of the idea would say that it is a socialist principle, which I think would be hard to argue against. Those for the program would say it alleviates the economic pressures of rising inflation and cost of living. Another major question surrounding UBI is how is it funded? Many opposed to it fear it would drive up tax rates on the working class. Do you think South Carolina should implement UBI? Let us know, below.
