Sheriff elaborates on positive and negative of Flock Cameras

Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis

The implementation and usage of Flock Cameras has been a hot button issue of late around the Upstate. There have been multiple incidents where law enforcement officers and employees have been fired for misusing the technology.

Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis joined the Tara Show Monday morning and spoke on two of his employees who were terminated for that very reason. " One was tracking her boyfriend throughout the county. The other was tracking a girl he was talking to, tracking her movements in the county. Neither of the other parties wanted to pursue charges for harassment, stalking or any of that".

Lewis also gave the flipside of the coin and talked about how the cameras when used correctly can be an incredible tool. Saying "Just last night, we had a domestic issue that turned very violent. A teenage son called and requested help for his mother. His dad packed them in the car and took off towards Tennessee. We used the Flock Cameras to have both of those victims rescued by authorities in Tennessee."

Lewis believes that the state legislature will discuss passing laws that would trigger criminal charges for misuse of Flock cameras by law enforcement.
