The push continues by some to move a confederate statue that sits in Downtown Greenville. Upstate activist , Bruce Wilson has been advocating for the monument to be removed for five years now. He says, that in 2020 the city informed everyone that change would happen. Wilson was at the Greenville City Council meeting Monday night to again address the issue. The delay on removing the statue comes from state law. Mayor Knox White has pointed toward South Carolina's Heritage Act which would prohibit the removal of the statue. The City Of Greenville would have to get a waiver from the state to make the change happen. The monument is that of confederate soldier and former Greenville Police Chief James B. Ligon. A couple of years ago, there was a compromised proposed on the statue. That proposal is to move the statue inside the gates of Springwood Cemetery closer to the graves of confederate soldiers. To move the statue, it would have to pass a majority vote from the South Carolina Statehouse and State Senate. Should the statue be moved? Let us know, what you think?
