Hundreds of hospitals in rural areas of the U.S. are at risk of closure, according to new data from Chartis, a health care advisory services firm. A total of 141 rural hospitals have closed since 2010 — while another 453 are "at risk of closure," according to a press release. Nearly 20 of those at risk hospitals are in North Carolina.
