In recent years, it seems that the job of law enforcement has become increasingly difficult. Departments and officers seem to be more scrutinized now than perhaps ever before. While the job is difficult, it doesn't seem like South Carolina as a state has done enough to improve upon conditions. A recent study from the research group WalletHub ranks South Carolina 43rd out of 51 (D.C. is included in list) on the list of the best states for officers. The rankings are based on several criteria, South Carolina ranks 49th in median income for officers (that ranking is adjusted for cost of living). The Palmetto State ranked 44th in violent crime rate per capita and 38th in police deaths per 1,000 officers. So, the question today is should South Carolina take measures to improve conditions for officers?
