The Simpsonville Farmers market has been a staple of many Saturdays in the downtown community since 2010, growing from a few vendors in the beginning to now nearly 40.
Saturday, May 8th sees the return of the Simpsonville Farmers Market for their 12th season with loosened COVID restrictions from last year.
Masks are not required, but attendees are asked to avoid touching produce and goods and simply pointing at what they want. Vendors will then handle the item to avoid having a multitude of hands touching things and potentially spreading anything.
The Farmers Market includes several local farmers, bakers, craftspeople, and more setting up stalls in the Simpsonville City Park for people to buy various food and other goods locally.
Amanda Hernandez, a vendor and committee member over the farmers market, says the market helps the local economy by keeping money spent locally.
"We are pretty unique in this area that we are vendor-run. Everyone that is on our committee is a market vendor," Hernandez said. "We don't have any local sponsorships. We kind of like it that we; then we can do things how we want them to be done. But what we also do is we have some of the lowest vendor fees in the area. Once we have paid our insurance and different bits and pieces, office things that we need to make signs and all that, any money that is remaining we donate locally in the community."
