After last year’s success, the Southern Roots BBQ Festival is making a return this weekend.
The all-you-can-eat BBQ event on Saturday, April 15th, at Trailblazer Park in Travers Rest was first started last year to raise funds and awareness for the non-profit organization I-Define.
The event serves as a fundraiser for to aid the organization, which helps families affected by Kleefstra Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that affects a child’s development and communication skills among other things.
Last year’s event raised over $40,000, and event coordinator Allie Knight says this year’s event is looking to repeat that success.
"I think folks can expect to see a lot of similarities to the event last year but with some familiar faces and new faces," Knight said. She explained that many of the pitmasters from year have returned alongside several new pitmasters.
Tickets for the event can be found on their website here.
