A Spartanburg man has been sentenced to two decades in prison after being arrested twice in 2021 during a span of just two months.
The 7th Circuit Solicitor's Office says 30 year old, Jamie Terrell Kates entered guilty pleas Tuesday to charges of aggravated domestic violence, 2nd degree violent burglary and a weapons charge.
Court documents show that Kates was arrested in March of 2021 after a shots fired incident. He initially fled from law enforcement but was apprehended and taken into custody.
A pistol was recovered in the incident. Just two months later, Kates went to his ex-girlfriend's house, forced entry into the home and assaulted her. A neighbor helped the victim escape the home.
Kates has been sentenced to 20 years, which is the max sentence for domestic violence. He also received two concurrent sentences totaling 20 years for the burglary and weapons charges. Kates will be required to serve 85% of his sentenced before being eligible for release.
