SPARTANBURG, SC (April 12, 2021) – Four years ago on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at approximately 9:40 p.m., MPO Jason Harris was operating a police motorcycle when it collided with a vehicle on Union Street.
Moments before the collision, other officers with the Spartanburg Police Department responded to a call for service reporting a burglary at 216 Cedar Springs Road.
Officers on the scene of the alleged burglary called for assistance from other officers.
MPO Harris was responding in the direction of those officers when the collision occurred.
On April 13, 2017, Officer Harris died while in surgery from the injuries sustained during the collision.
The Spartanburg Police Department today held a brief ceremony of remembrance in honor of Master Police Officer Jason Gregory Harris at City Hall.
