
The race for South Carolina Governor highlights a slate of statewide races in the general election. The incumbent, Republican Henry McMaster, is seeking his second full term as Governor.

His Democratic opponent, Joe Cunningham a native of Kentucky, is a one term US Congressman from South Carolina’s First Congressional District who was defeated by Republican Nancy Mace in 2020.
Libertarian candidate, Morgan Reeves, is an Irmo native, former NFL player and pastor. The office of Governor and Lt. Governor in South Carolina now run as a ticket similar to the US President and Vice President.
Other statewide races include Secretary of State, where incumbent Republican Mark Hammond faces Democrat Rosemounda Peggy Butler. Attorney General incumbent Republican Alan Wilson and incumbent Republican Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom are running unopposed.
In the race for Superintendent of Education, incumbent Republican Molly Spearman is not running for re-election. Lisa Ellis appears twice on the ballot representing both the Alliance Party and Democratic Party. Patricia M Mickel is the Green Party candidate. Ellen Weaver is the Republican nominee.
In the Commissioner of Agriculture race, incumbent Republican Hugh Weathersis seeking re-election in an office he has held since 2005. Weathers is facing Green Party candidate David Edmond and United Citizens Party candidate Chris Nelums.
There will be two constitutional amendments questions on the ballot pertaining to the state’s so-called rainy day funds. Question one asks if the state should increase the amount of money the state government must keep in the General Reserve Fund from 5% of the previous year's revenue to 7% of the previous year's revenue.
The second`question asks if the state should increase the amount of money state government must appropriate to the Capital Reserve Fund from 2% of the previous year’s revenue to 3% of the previous year’s revenue and require that the Capital Reserve Fund’s first priority is to offset midyear budget cuts at state agencies.
