A state lawmaker is calling for a Greenwood woman to be released from prison. Tiffany Carroll is currently serving a 15 year sentence in connection to the death of her reportedly abusive boyfriend in 2017.

State Representative John McCravy of Greenwood is asking for Carroll to be exonerated and released. McCravy is now applying for a pardon on Carroll's behalf. He says he's spoken to the 8th Circuit Solicitor's Office to get their support.

In 2019, Carroll pleaded guilty but mentally ill to a manslaughter charge in the death of William Jamal Johnson. Carroll was diagnosed with battered woman's syndrome by a clinical psychologist. Carroll is expected to have a parole hearing later this year.
