Multiple corrections officer are facing felony charges after being indicted by a State Grand Jury. South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson says the indictments came after a large scale investigation.
Five officers are accused of being part of a conspiracy to smuggle illicit drugs and contraband cell phones into the McCormick Correctional Institute. Officers Brittany Pixley, Judy Mather, Shaquaila Morgan and Dion Gaines are all charged with misconduct in office, criminal conspiracy and money laundering.
A 5th officer, George Leverette has been indicted for trafficking meth, possession of a controlled substance, and a weapons violation among other charges.
The AG's Office says, SLED, The Department of Corrections, the McCormick County Sheriff's Office and Edgefield County Sheriff's Office and other agencies all worked together in the investigation.
