A state lawmaker from the Midlands has been indicted on federal child sex crime charges. State Representative RJ May of Lexington County has been indicted on 10 counts of distributing child sex abuse material.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says videos were posted on a messaging app, and the account came back to May's phone and home IP address. May faces up to 20 years in prison.

State law requires the Speaker of the House to suspend state representatives who are indicted in state or federal court until the legal issue is resolved.
