What is being called the Table rock Complex Fire, which includes the Persimmon Ridge fire, is reported nine percent contained as of late Sunday.
It has now scorched more than 11,000 acres, more than the previous record worst, Pinnacle Mountain fire of 2017. At least one-third of the Table Rock State Park has been blackened by the blaze.
The 2000-acre Persimmon Ridge fire is considered 24-percent contained Monday morning, but firefighters are having to guard a twelve-mile perimeter to keep it from rekindling.
The State Forestry Commission's Red Flag Burning Ban is now lifted as of for all but five South Carolina counties. Greenville, Oconee, Pickens Spartanburg and Horry counties will remain under the burning ban until further notice. An update on the overall evacuation status will be issued later this morning.
