A student is in custody after multiple weapons were found at an Upstate school, Monday morning. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office says officials at Westside High seized two weapons after a student was stopped walking through the school's weapons detection system.
Anderson School District 5 upgraded to the Evolv Weapons Detection System in recent years, which is the same system used in Greenville County Schools.
The district alerted parents to the news in an email Monday that said the weapons were confiscated without incident. The student who has not been identified due to their age, is charged with carrying a weapon on school property.
The student was already on probation and was wearing an ankle monitor for a previous weapons charge. The student has been transported to the DJJ facility in Columbia
