A group of students at an Upstate university are doing their part to bring about change and prevent hazing. This week is national Hazing Prevention Week on campuses across the nation.
Savannah Hobbie is a Senior at Furman and she's spearheading the anti-hazing events there this week. Several other students have joined in the effort as well. Cindy Hipps has also been involved in advising and helping the efforts of the students. Cindy's son Tucker passed in 2014 after an alleged hazing incident at Clemson University.
Currently, South Carolina Law deems hazing a misdemeanor even if it results in severe injury or death. However, Hobbie and her fellow students look to change that through a petition. The petition has gained momentum as 280 signatures were collected on campus in less than 24 hours of its inception.
