The suspect accused of shooting a deputy in Western North Carolina over the weekend, has now been identified. As we previously reported, a deputy from Buncombe County and an Asheville Police Officer were securing warrants on the suspect around 1:40 AM Sunday at the detention center there.

The suspect now identified as, 40 year old Ryan Ricky Houston of Weaverville then reportedly walked into the lobby of the detention center and began fighting with the deputy and officer.

The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office says, Houston then pulled out a gun and shot the deputy in the shoulder. The deputy then returned fire and struck the suspect. Houston fled the scene, but was later taken into custody at Mission Hospital in Asheville.

The deputy was injured in the shooting, he was treated and released from a local hospital. Houston faces charges for attempted murder, aggravated assault and two counts of assaulting an officer with a firearm.
